How Roots of Empathy is supporting children in 2020-21

This school year, children  need Roots of Empathy more than ever.

Roots of Empathy supports positive mental health and well-being, and creates a safe space for children to learn and talk about their feelings. We help them not only cope, but thrive.

Why Roots of Empathy?

In Roots of Empathy, children develop empathy, which allows them to understand themselves and relate to others. Quality relationships act as a protection against negative or stressful experiences by increasing a child’s resilience and sense of belonging. When children feel connected and supported, they are freed up to engage, focus, learn, grow and feel happy.

We bring a tiny teacher with their parent, a trained Instructor, and an age-appropriate curriculum to the classroom. We’re closely monitoring school guidelines and consulting with local health authorities, and we’ve adapted to ensure that children receive the same benefits no matter how ecuation is being delivered.

Roots of Empathy Recovery Program

The Roots of Empathy Recovery Program will begin in the fall of 2020, delivered by our certified Instructors and hosted by teachers in their classrooms, to help support the students’ mental health, well-being and adjustment back into the regular routine of school. Our newest curriculum focuses on the development of emotional literacy skills that will help students with emotion regulation, which is essential for learning. We empower children and help them to continue to be resilient in these uncertain times.

Roots of Empathy Adapted Program

The Roots of Empathy Adapted Program will be delivered from January 2021 to the end of the school year and is designed to be delivered in schools which were not able to begin a program in the fall of 2020. This program follows the structure of our traditional Roots of Empathy program, if circumstances are such that we can invite the parent and baby into the classroom. With programs in every province in Canada and across continents we will be respectful and compliant with local mandates and adapt our program accordingly. We will be there for the children in whatever way is possible.

Roots of Empathy Traditional Program

The traditional Roots of Empathy program will be delivered by Roots of Empathy Instructors in areas that are least affected by Covid-19 and are able to bring volunteer families with their babies, the host classroom teacher and the students together around the green blanket.
